Lura Jane Myers Hawkins, 80, loving mother of four passed away on July 27, 2018, in Drasco, Arkansas. Lura Jane was born in Tulare, California, on September 20, 1937, to the late Vernon and Myrl (Cochran) Myers. She received her English degree from Arkansas State Teachers College and a graduate degree in education from the University of Central Arkansas. Then she attended Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, to study Gifted Education and to pursue a PhD. Mrs. Jane spent her life educating young minds for more than 36 years in the Conway, Greers Ferry, and Concord schools in Arkansas and in Bryan schools in Texas. Education was her passion but her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She is survived by her three sons: Judson ‘Jud' Avey, Jr. (Sharon) of Mayflower, Arkansas; Jay Avey of Conway, Arkansas; Bret Benton (Tonya) of Drasco, Arkansas and her daughter, Lura Benton Griffin (Dustin) of Dripping Spring, Texas. She leaves behind eight grandchildren: Danielle Roberts (Ted), Miki Ann Montoya (Rick), Ashlee McCain (Rich), Morgan Cornelison (Ryan), Mallory Benton, Brooks Benton, Andrew Griffin and Benton Griffin and seven great-grandchildren with Khloe Jane on the way in October. Her brothers are also left to cherish her memory: Leroy Myers, Leon Myers (Angel) and JB Myers (Jeanette) and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Preceded in death by her parents of Clinton, Arkansas; her husband, Tom Hawkins of Drasco, Arkansas; and her sister-in-law, Phyllis Myers of Bishop, California. She requested not to have a service. Please honor her legacy by diagramming a sentence or reading a good book. We will always carry her memory in our hearts.
