Roger Allen Vaughan

Devoted Husband, Father, Papaw, Businessman, Community Leader, and Friend Roger Allen Vaughan, surrounded by his family, entered into eternal peace on August 8, 2018 at the age of 83. He was born in Searcy, Arkansas on September 10, 1934, to Barnett and Pauline Huffstuttler Vaughan. Roger was a devoted Christian and a lifelong member of West Race Baptist Church in Searcy. He lived his life passionately and had unconditional love for his wife, Carol. He received his education at Searcy Public Schools where he played center of defense for Searcy High School Lions Varsity team and went to the state championship in 1953. This was just the beginning of a lifetime of achievement for Roger. At age 18, he joined the Army National Guard and had the honor of being one of the soldiers in the jeep that escorted the Little Rock Nine to Little Rock Central High School in 1957, which made national history. He was a prominent business owner for many years before retirement. He began his career in sales as part owner of a shoe store and later went to work for Audley Bolton, owner of Bolton's Inc., where he worked in sales and earned the sales manager position. He then became part owner of Bolton's and later became sole owner of Bolton Vaughan Motors and built a new building. Not only did he take pride in his business, but truly relished the friends he made during this time. Over the years, his sales expertise and reputation led him to great success. Roger was a committed advocate of his community and served on many committees throughout his life: Searcy Water Board, First National Bank/Regions Bank Board, National Dealer Council, Arkansas Health Resources Board, Searcy Chamber of Commerce, West Race Baptist Church Long Range Committee. He is survived by his daughter, Debra Rayner (Barry) of Searcy; son, Greg Vaughan of Cherokee Village; one granddaughter: Tiffaney Turturro (Tony) of Jonesboro; four grandsons: Bryan Haskins (Kerri) of Searcy, Kelly Vaughan of Travis Air Force Base California, Brandon Haskins of Searcy, and Michael Vaughan (Chloe) of Searcy; five great-grandchildren: Aiden and Asher Turturro, Kaden and Kohen Haskins, and Brynly Vaughan; one brother-in-law, John Paul Capps; and many nieces and nephews. Roger was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Vaughan; parents, Barnett and Pauline Huffstuttler Vaughan; step-mother, Rosa Mae Vaughan; brother, Coleman Vaughan; sister-in-law, Mary Frances Vaughan; and sister, Elizabeth Capps. Visitation will be Friday, August 10, from 6-8 p.m., at Powell Funeral Home of Searcy. Funeral Service will be Saturday, August 11, 11 a.m., at West Race Baptist Church, Searcy. Interment will follow at Gum Springs Cemetery. In memory of Roger, the family requests donations be made to West Race Baptist Church in lieu of flowers. www.powellfuneralhome.net
