Juanita Fern Bailey

Juanita Fern Hubbard Bailey, 97, passed away August 25, 2018 at her home in Huntsville, Arkansas. She was born August 6, 1921 at Witter, Arkansas, the daughter of John Calhoun Hubbard and Elsie Hoskins Hubbard and the youngest of five siblings. She was a 1938 graduate of Huntsville State Vocational School (which became Huntsville High School in 1958). She attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Okla., the University of Central Arkansas, and graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1957. She began teaching in 1937 at the age of 16 in the rural Madison County schools, transferring to the Huntsville School District in 1952 to teach first grade. She remained in this position until her retirement in 1984 with a total of 46 years of service. Mrs. Bailey loved her students and remained interested in their lives, careers, and accomplishments. Juanita Fern Hubbard and Walter William "Sam" Bailey were married on December 31, 1941. They enjoyed 51 wonderful years of marriage until his death on October 21, 1993. They made their home in the community of Alabam and were members of Presley Chapel United Methodist Church. Juanita was predeceased by her husband, her parents, and her four siblings, Polly Delk, Allie Edens, Taylor Hubbard, and Roxie Stapleton. She is survived by three nieces, Onedia Neal of Springdale, Arkansas; Marilyn Fern Dotson of Hindsville, Arkansas; and Charolette Palmer of Redding, California. She is also survived by several great nieces and nephews: Joe Dobson of Midwest City, Oklahoma; Janice Thomas of Springdale, Arkansas; Norma Ruth Neal of Springdale, Arkansas; Helen Friend of Springdale, Arkansas; Sharon Caldwell of Springdale, Arkansas; Kay Harmon of Springdale, Arkansas; Donna Gallagher of Springdale, Arkansas; Vicki Pennington of Springdale, Arkansas; Edward Edens of Monterrey, California; Whitney Wilson of Hindsville, Arkansas; Courtney Spurlock of Huntsville, Arkansas; Stephanie Casey of Hindsville, Arkansas; and Nicholas Palmer of Redding, California. Services will be held at Brashears Funeral Home in Huntsville, Arkansas on Thursday, August 30, 2018, at 10 a.m. with Reverend Brad Moore officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday evening, August 29, 2018, at Brashears Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. Interment will be at Alabam Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dwain Pianalto, Tom Tice, Shelby Sisemore, Edwin Thomas, Dr. Jeff Casey, Darby Spurlock, Kevin Wilson, and John Wilson. Honorary Pallbearers are Joe Dobson, David Dobson, Ernie Ward, Jay Dean Ward, Charles H. Berry, Rodney Friend, Mike Caldwell and John Zieske. The family wishes to thank Tara Box, Lenora Riedel, Dr. Ivan Box, Cassey, Jeanette, Mary, Tina "Red", Donna, Elsie, Tina, Toni, Pam, and the wonderful staff of Countryside Assisted Living.
