Carolyn Ferrill Dunnigan

Carolyn Ferrill Dunnigan was born in Little Rock, Arkansas to James Fletcher Ferrill and Helen Bujarski Ferrill. She graduated from Mount St. Mary Academy, attended Southwestern at Memphis (now Rhodes College) and graduated from the University of Arkansas with a BA in Journalism. She interned at the Arkansas Democrat and became a staff writer at The Dallas Morning News in 1965. Carolyn always excelled at everything she did. She was an Arkansas state champion freestyle swimmer and diver and served as president of her Delta Delta Delta sorority. She received one of the first early Headliner awards from the Press Club of Dallas, she served as president of the Rosemont Elementary School PTA, and she was most proud to be the first female member and first female president of the Oak Cliff Lions Club. Carolyn met her husband, David Dunnigan, when both worked on the staff of The Dallas Morning News. They served as executive vice presidents of the Greater Dallas Planning Council for many years, and she served as administrative director of the Dallas Assembly and the Dallas Friday Group. She was a board member of Kessler-Stevens Book Club, The Well Community, Oak Cliff Society of Fine Arts and a member of Kessler Park United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband of 51 years, sons, Brendan and wife Susanne Ice Dunnigan of San Francisco, Calif. and Colin and his wife Laura Ingersoll Dunnigan of Jackson, Miss.; four grandsons, Dylan and Devin of San Francisco and Morgan and Connor of Jackson; sister, Jane Ferrill Colclasure and her husband Bruce of Little Rock; nieces, Angela Hill and Amanda Green Owen, nephews, Bruce Colclasure Jr., Jacob Green, Robert Green and David Green, and many cousins. Visitation will be Friday, February 16 from 5-7 p.m. at Jeter and Son Funeral Home, 4830 West Illinois Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75211. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 17 at 10:30 a.m. at Kessler Park United Methodist Church, 1215 Turner Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75208.
