Gloria Day Young Herzig Dalrymple

Gloria Day Young Herzig Dalrymple, age 82, of Little Rock, passed away on February 16, 2018 in Little Rock. She was born November 16, 1935 in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Lonnie and Frieda Young. Gloria earned her B.S. in Education from Madison College (Virginia,) and her M.S. in School Counseling from the University of Virginia. Gloria was a teacher in various schools throughout Virginia and Kansas, ending her 42-year career as a high school counselor at Liberal High School in Liberal, Kan. Gloria was united in marriage with Philip R Herzig on March 18, 1960, and they enjoyed 46 years of marriage until his death, November 25, 2006. They lived in Kansas the duration of their marriage. On October 20, 2007, Gloria married Alwyn Dalrymple in Little Rock, where they have made their home, enjoying 10 years of marriage. She felt blessed to have been married to two wonderful men and have a combined 56 years of happy married life. Gloria was a member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. She was a member of Chapter BX-PEO in Salina, Kan. She was very involved in teacher rights and served as president of the teacher's union, KNEA, in Solomon, Kan., for many years. Gloria was an avid animal lover, particularly her beloved boxer dogs and Persian cats. She had many collections, but her extensive antique doll collection was a favorite. She loved watching college basketball and football. She was very much a Southern lady and loved her home state of Virginia, "the mother of Presidents." She loved the Atlantic Ocean, the surrounding military bases, and being an American of English heritage. She is survived by her husband, Alwyn Dalrymple of Little Rock; two children, Reed (Daniela) Herzig of Ankeny, Iowa; Melissa (Scott) Wiles of Prairie Village, Kansas; two step-children, Robin Dalrymple of Little Rock, Todd (Laurie) Dalrymple of Shreveport, Louisiana; four grandchildren, Daniel and Philip Herzig of Ankeny, Iowa, Christian Wiles of Lake Orion, Michigan, Bethany Wiles of Lincoln, Nebraska; sister, Linda (Frank) Moore of King George, Virginia; sister-in-law, Nancy Anderson of Lindsborg, Kansas; three nieces and nephews, Dr. Wendy Moore of King George, Virginia, Dana (Janice) Anderson of Edmond, Oklahoma, Debbie (Warren) Johnson of Lindsborg, Kansas; numerous great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews along with many cousins and beloved friends. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Disabled American Veterans Charitable Service Trust. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 10th, 2018 at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Little Rock, Reverend Dr. J. Russell Snapp officiating. Light refreshments will follow.
