Jessie George Head Prettyman Broadfoot died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, February 16, 2018. She was born February 19, 1922 in Jersey City, New Jersey to Harry Scott Head and Jessie Lewis Head. She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Marshall Prettyman, Sr. and her second husband, Fredrick Milner Broadfoot; as well as her two brothers, Lewis Adam Head and Dr. John James Head. She is survived by her son, William Marshall Prettyman Jr. of West Fork; her daughter, Jessie Lewis Mulry of Southport, North Carolina; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She grew up in Glen Rock, New Jersey. She received an AB in English Literature from Douglas College for Women, a part of Rutgers University. After college she worked for National Lead Company in New York City until the birth of her son. When her first husband died in 1975, she moved to her summer home in Sag Harbor, Long Island. There she became office manager for the Baywoods, a garden center in the Hamptons. In 1988 she married Fredrick Broadfoot, the best man at her first wedding, and moved back to Middletown, New Jersey, where she lived. After Mr. Broadfoot died, she moved to Fayetteville in 2004 to be near her family. When the new Fayetteville Library was finished, she became a volunteer there until no longer able for health reasons. As per her wishes, ceremonies will be private and she will be cremated.
