Ruth Mary Lay

On January 5th, Ruth Mary Lay, 84, left her earthly home and moved into her Heavenly mansion provided for her from her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was born July 26, 1933 in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Mildred and Lee Becherer. She married Herman H. Lay in 1951 and had their daughter born in St. Johns New Foundland, Canada. After being discharged from the Air Force in 1958, they moved to Springdale, where she would work as an assistant manager in the Dentistry field until 1999. Ruth was a member of Cross Church of Springdale since 1960 were she taught 6th and 7th grade Sunday School for 10 years. Her hobbies included sewing, hunting and fishing, She loved her 150 yr old antique pump organ. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Herman H. Lay and two brothers, Larry and Lee Becherer. Survivors include her daughter, Debra L. Griggs and husband Curtis of Springdale, brother-in-law, Gary Lay and wife Carol of Salem, Missouri, two nephews Donald and Raymond Becherer of Salem, Missouri. A special friend and companion N.K. Williams, who for the last 15 years, they enjoyed their church, exploring the area especially the restaurants and just spending time together. A special thanks to her caregivers and doctors, who helped her through 2 heart surgeries and a stroke. You were a blessing to her and to us. A funeral service will take place Wednesday, January 10th starting at 10 a.m. at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale. Joe Dorman will be officiating. Burial will take place at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Salem, Missouri on Thursday, January 11th at the graveside at 10am. Graveside services will be provided by James and Ghar Mortuary of Salem.
