Elizabeth Barron Evans

On January 11, 2018, ELIZABETH BARRON EVANS received her heavenly wings. Mrs. Evans was born on October 30, 1915, in Greenwood, Miss., to Andy Leonard Barron and Hagar (Hazel) Lee Barron. She is the oldest of seven children. Mrs. Elizabeth Evans attended Bush Elementary School, Dunbar Junior and Senior High School and Arkansas Baptist College where she received a B. S. Degree in Studies in Religion. Mrs. Elizabeth Evans also attended Philander Smith College where she received a B. A. Degree in Social Studies. She received a Masters Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in 1961. Mrs. Evans was married to the late Rev. Felix Timothy Evans for 36 years and to this union five children were born (Rev. Timothy Evans Sr., Mr. Paul Louis Evans Sr., Rev. Lawrence Henry Evans Sr., Rev, Robert Andrew Evans, Sr. and Mrs. Marilyn Elizabeth Evans Turner). Her five children are graduates of Philander Smith College. Mrs. Evans was preceded in death by her parents, husband, six siblings, three sons (Timothy, Paul, and Lawrence), and one grandson. She was a lifetime member of St. Peter's Rock Baptist Church where she served faithfully with her husband, Pastor Evans. She served as musician for 41 years, Director of the Baptist Training Union, President of the Mission Society, Mimeograph Clerk, and Special Events Coordinator. Mrs. Evans taught Social Studies for 10 years at Gartrell High School in England, Arkansas. She later taught in the Little Rock Public School System at Gibbs and Woodruff Elementary Schools for 17 years. After years of dedicated service she retired in 1978. Her professional affiliations include: LRCTA, NEA, and Retired Educators. Mrs. Evans loved to travel. Following retirement she traveled to the Holy Land, Hawaii, Europe (London, England, Paris, France, Copenhagen, Denmark, Malmo, Sweden, Amsterdam, and Holland) and Northeast Africa (Egypt). She leaves to cherish her memories her son, Rev. Robert A. Evans, Sr. (Myrtle); her daughter, Marilyn Evans Turner (Levy); her daughters-in-law, Mae Dean Evans, Mary Alice Evans, and Barbara Jean Evans; 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Rock Baptist Church, 2201 Brown Street, Little Rock, Ark.
