Edward H. Darcey passed away on January 17, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 8, 1932 in Washington, D.C. Ed graduated from George Washington University in 1956 and received his commission in the Air Force at the same time. He trained as a pilot, starting with the SA-16, doing rescues in Alaska and South Carolina, then trained on his beloved C-130s and flew those all over the world until his retirement in 1985 as a Lt. Colonel. He also served twice in the Vietnam War, the first time in 1965 and then again from 1969-1970, receiving the Bronze Star and the Vietnam Service Medal. He retired after 28 years in the Air Force, receiving numerous medals and awards for his service and dedication. He enjoyed his retirement by traveling with his beloved wife, Babs, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In 1979, Ed flew his C-130 through Super Typhoon Tip off the coast of Guam, and recorded the lowest barometric pressure ever recorded. He still holds the Guiness Book of World Records for that pressure reading. Ed is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Babs (Carlson). He is also survived by his 10 children: Mike Darcey, David and Jan Darcey, Diana and Edward Chunn, Sally and Peter Respicio, Ginny and Steve Williams, Bill and Katrina Darcey, James and Susan Darcey, Kristie and Tim Taylor, Steve and Bri Darcey, and Danny and Brandy Darcey. Also surviving are 29 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. He was a very fun-loving father and granddad. He loved to spend time with family whether it was at home, traveling, or on the water in his boat. Ed was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and will be missed by the members of the Cabot Ward. A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 between 11 a.m. and noon. A celebration of his life will follow immediately after at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 6110 T.P. White Drive in Jacksonville, Arkansas.
