RUTH DELORES JACKSON PRUITT, 93, of Little Rock passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2018. She was born September 19, 1924 in Little Rock, Ark., to John A. and Lillian Scott Jackson. Ruth was predeceased by her parents; three sisters, Lillian, Helen, Mary Elizabeth; three brothers, John, Arron, and Nathan; husband of 77 years, Benny Pruitt; three sons, Charles Edward Pruitt, John Nathan Pruitt, and Benjamin Leon Pruitt. Mrs. Pruitt was educated in the Little Rock Public schools at Bush Elementary School, Dunbar Junior/Senior High School and Dunbar Junior College. She continued her education by enrolling in Philander Smith College and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Additionally, Mrs. Pruitt received a Master of Education degree from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. She didn't stop there. She enrolled in Ouachita Baptist University, Arkadelphia, Arkansas, and graduated with a Master of Science in Education (with emphasis in reading). Mrs. Pruitt taught school at Carver Elementary School, Forest Heights Junior High School, Philander Smith College Upward Bound, and Central High School. She was a Certified Reading Specialist, K-12. In 1990, she retired, after 36 years of service in the public schools. Survivors include her loving daughter, Lillian Pruitt Rutter (William) of Little Rock; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, two devoted daughters-in-law, Caroline Pruitt and Judy Pruitt; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family would like to thank Baptist Home Health Network, Baptist Emergency Services, as well as Dr. Jasmine Brathwaite. Mrs. Pruitt will be available for viewing Thursday, February 1, 2018, between 2-6 p.m., at the Ruffin & Jarrett Funeral Home, 1200 S. Chester Street, Little Rock, and on Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, at 10-10:30 a.m., at Greater Archview Baptist Church, 1720 W. 23rd Street, Little Rock.The Celebration of Life Service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be immediately following at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery.
