Freddie Martin, 72, of Hamburg, a loving husband, Daddy and Poppy, died Sunday, January 28, 2018. Mr. Martin was a native and resident of Hamburg for many years. He attended Hamburg High School and was a veteran of the United States Army Reserve. Mr. Martin was a businessman and was co-owner of B & F Martin, Inc for the past 41 years. He retired from the Hamburg Fire Department after 20 years of service, was a member of the Farmers Bank Board of Directors and a member of the Hamburg Cemetery Board. He was a member of the First Baptist Church since 1980 and served as a church trustee. He received the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year award in 2010 and the Fred LaGrone Lifetime Achievement award in 2014. His life was an example of a caring, dedicated, hard working person, a loving parent, grandparent and a responsible citizen of our community. He is preceded in death by his parents, James Haywood "Woodie" & Dorothy Louise Callaway Martin and two brothers, Jimmy Lee Martin & Thomas Richard "Joe" Martin. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Joy Ann Nixon Martin; a daughter, Kimberly Ann Martin Johns and husband, Mark; a son, Frederick Nixon "Nick" Martin and wife, Nikki, all of Hamburg; three brothers, James E. "Sonny" Martin and wife, Charlene, of Crossett, Bobby D. Martin and wife, Sylvia, of Hamburg and Randy Martin and wife, Lacey, of Lake Village; three sisters, Dorothy Savage and husband, Bo, Gladys Gulledge and husband, Edward, and Judy Bates and husband, Gene, all of Hamburg; four sisters-in-law, Debbie and Pat Martin both of Hamburg, Axie Withers and husband, Bill, of Fountain Hill and Mel Nixon of Sheridan; four grandchildren, Nicole Garner, Jack Pruitt, Garrett Martin and Callie Martin; three great-grandchildren, Branson Mallard, Beckett Garner and Tuff Pruitt and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services are 2 p.m., Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Bobby Pennington and Gene Gregory officiating. Burial will be in the Hamburg Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home. Pallbearers are Jack Pruitt, Garrett Martin, Neil Martin, John Martin, Terry Martin, Barry Savage, Lyance Savage, Jr and Brian Martin.
