Joan Elizabeth Nahlen passed away January 27, 2018. She was born on Dec. 14, 1948, the third child of William Michael (Bill) and Otillia Seiter (Tillie) Nahlen. Joan was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Michael, and Michael's son, William Russel Nahlen. She is survived by three siblings, Anita Castleberry (Jim), Patrick Nahlen, and Carmen Long; her sister-in-law, Charlotte (Charli) Nahlen; five nephews; three nieces; and several great nieces, nephews, and many, many cousins. Joan graduated from Mt. St. Mary Academy in 1966. She attended St. Vincent School of Nursing & graduated in Feb. 19, 1969, two months after her 20th birthday. In June 1969 she passed states boards & was officially a registered nurse. She worked at St. Vincent on the coronary care step-down unit until 1974. She then worked at the Arkansas Heart Association as assistant director of High Blood Pressure Control. In 1975 she began working for noted cardiologist Dr. Ben Price. In 1984 she left work to be her mother's caregiver for the next four years. It was at this time that her own health began to decline. She became unofficially retired at that time. Special thanks to her cardiologist Dr. Aravind Nemarkommula (Dr. Rao) and her nephrologist Dr. Prajwal Chevireddy (Dr. Chevi), Dr. Robert Rice, and Jim Westbrook, for taking care of our 4-legged friends for so many years. These men definitely added time to her life. [Joan says]: Special thanks to my brother Pat (Mr. Fixit), and my best friend and sister Carmen, for always being there for me. Also my favorite Rent-A-Kids, Zach and Lauren Long, and my personal pharmacist & good friend Lynn Hailey. Joan was a retired nurse and life-long Catholic. She was a member of the Cathedral of St. Andrew in downtown Little Rock. She enjoyed tennis, motorcycling, gardening, and canning. She took care of the many flowers and shrubs that were planted by her mother, many of which are 40+ years old. She devoted her life to healing and helping others in Christ's love. She will be fiercely missed. In place of flowers make donations to Little Rock Animal Village, 4500 Kramer Street, Little Rock, 72204. Visitation will be held at Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth Funeral Home on Thursday, February 1st, from 5-6:30 p.m., followed by a rosary.
