Hazel Gene Swinney

Hazel Gene Terrell Swinney, age 89, previously of Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, June 28, 2018, at her home in Culleoka, Tennessee. Born on October 22, 1928, in Magnolia, Arkansas, Hazel was the daughter of the late Arthur Earle Terrell and the late Vona Green Terrell. In 1949, she married Herbert M. Swinney at County Avenue Baptist Church in Texarkana, where they served faithfully until his death in 2003. She served in many capacities at County Avenue and retired after 35 years as church secretary in 2004. She then moved to Little Rock to live with her daughter and became active in First Missionary Baptist Church, Mabelvale. In December 2017, she and Joyce moved to Culleoka, to live her declining years with both daughters and her extended family. She is survived by her daughters: Wanda Lentz (Dan) of Culleoka, Tennessee, Joyce Swinney of Culleoka, Tennessee; and a brother: Wayne Terrell of Harrison, Arkansas; four grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren (plus another in August.) Visitation will be held Thursday, July 5, 2018, from 2-4 p.m. at Texarkana Funeral Home, Texarkana, Texas, followed by a celebration of her life led by Rev. Roger Copeland and James Bull. Family graveside services will be 9 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2018, at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Texarkana, Arkansas. In central Arkansas, First Missionary Baptist Church, 10300 Mabelvale West Road, Little Rock, Arkansas, will have a memorial service for Mrs. Swinney on Saturday, July 7 at 11 a.m. with the Rev.
