The family is sad to announce the passing of David H. Day, Sr., 79, of Dumas, Arkansas, July 18, 2018 in Dumas. David was born December 31, 1938 in Lake village, the son of the late, Clarence and Wynoma Day. David was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years Ute Day his parents, Clarence and Wynoma Day, brothers, C.W. "Billy" Day Jr., Raymond Day, Danny Day, Lee Roy Day, and granddaughter, Rachel Day. Survivors are his wife, Deborah Day of Dumas, Ark.; one son David H. (Barbara) Day Jr. of Selmer, Tenn. and one daughter, Christina Wynoma Day of Bexbach, Germany; one stepson, Erick (Marie) Runyan of Houston, Ark. and one stepdaughter, Serita (Allan) Wood of McGehee, Ark.; two brothers, William (Judy) Day of Tillar, Ark. and Ricky (Tanya) Day of Dumas, Ark. and one sister, Sue (Billy) Wood, Gulf Shores, Ala., eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. David Day was a committed service member serving in the United States Army for over 29 years. David worked his way up through rank achieving rank of Commanding Sargent Major. David received many awards and accolades including the Legion of Merritt, Bronze Star, received his master's Degree from Naval War College and his BSE from The University of New York. A member of TKE (Beta Psi), Arkansas State University and Master Mason.David continued his service after his retirement for over 22 years serving as a Department of the Army Civilian. After David's service to his country he moved to his home town of Dumas, where he became an active member of First Baptist Church, extending mentor ship to those around him helping any one always willing to give a helping hand, he will truly be loved and missed beyond words. Visitation held from 6-8 p.m., Friday, July 20, Griffin Funeral Home. Funeral services held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 21, 2018 at First Baptist Church in Dumas with Rev. Dubs Byers officiating followed by burial in Tillar Cemetery, Tillar, Ark., Memorials may be made to Disabled Veterans Association or Wounded Warriors Project.
