Henry ‘Scott' Yocum III, age 62, walked the stairway to heaven on Tuesday, June 5, 2018. Scott was born on February 9, 1956, in El Dorado to the late Judge and Mrs. Henry Scott Yocum, Jr. After graduating from Baylor High School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Scott earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia. His beautiful bride of 34 years is blessed with an abundance of memories beginning with their blind date in a private hut at the Hush Puppy Restaurant in Camden. Scott and Paula soon married July 22, 1983. A fairy tale love story ensued as Scott became king of his castle and his two princesses, Lauren Michelle and Melissa Ann, entered the storyline. One of his proudest achievements is his Eagle Scout rank in the Boy Scouts of America, an organization that he supported heartily for the remainder of his life. Scott, AKA "Pappy" to his twin granddaughters Atalie Faith and Emmie Vera, provided above and beyond for his family every day of his life with his patience or words of encouragement. When he was not pouring into family and friends, Scott had a love for target shooting and listening to music for hours on end. Being the devoted father and husband that he was, Scott was able to set aside his masculinity to allow his princesses to style what little hair he had with their favorite bows and ribbons. He spent many hours supporting Lauren and Melissa's involvement with school and extracurricular activities, videoing dance recitals, and offering fatherly wisdom to his girls and their husbands, Austin White (Lauren) and Corey Hickson (Melissa). It was in 2009 and 2016 that Austin and Corey joined the family, bringing numbers to Scott for the ‘man tribe' and fulfilling the roles of sons to Paula and Scott. Scott served faithfully on Sunday mornings in suit and tie at the First United Methodist Church, though we all know he was most comfortable in his sweatpants or shorts and T-shirts loving on his two Labradors, Honey and Sassy. Supporting the El Dorado community, having lunch with friends at Town House, and fellowshipping with family at Calion are all memories that grounded Scott and made him who he was. His selfless, charismatic, and joyful spirit will be missed but forever carried on by countless cousins, family members, and friends. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, June 8, 2018 in the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 9, 2018 at the church with Rev. Keith Dodson officiating. Burial will follow at Arlington Memorial Park under the direction of Young's Funeral Directors. Serving as pallbearers are Clinton Earl Blake, Corey Alan Hickson, Christopher Scott Shallcross, Lewis Paul Shallcross, Todd Yocum Shallcross, and Austin David White. Serving as honorary pallbearers are a host of dear family and dear friends. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 201 S. Hill Ave., El Dorado, Ark. 71730 or to the Union County Animal Protection Society, 1000 Sunset Rd., El Dorado, Ark. 71730. An online guest registry will be available at www.youngsfuneralhome.com.
