Evelyne Clifford Edmonson, 88, of Pine Bluff, died Friday, June 8, 2018 at her home in Sheridan. She was born Oct. 20, 1929 to the late Louis Charles and Mary Ella Evans Clifford. Mrs. Edmonson was reared and received her early education in Pine Bluff, graduating from Pine Bluff High School in 1947. She earned her B.S.E. from Arkansas State Teacher's College in Conway (now UCA), where she was a member of Sigma Kappa sorority. Evelyne married John Edmonson on Aug. 21, 1955 at First United Methodist Church in Pine Bluff. Evelyne taught English, History, and Spanish at Watson Chapel High School before finishing her Library Science Degree and becoming Watson Chapel's Librarian. She also served as Media Center Specialist at Merrill Junior High, Jefferson Prep, and White Hall High School. She earned her master's in Media in 1984 from UCA. Evelyne served as a presenter for the Arkansas River Educational Service Cooperative Staff Development Pre-school Workshop, AAVA Summer Leadership Conference and Summer Mini Conference and was a facilitator for the Arkansas Educational Television Workshop and AAIM. She was named the recipient of the Arkansas Association of Instructional Media (AAIM) 1992 Leadership Award. Evelyne had served the organization as president, board member, secretary, and member of several committees. Evelyne was also a past vice president, secretary and initiation and membership chairman of the Alpha Lambda Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a member of the 1991-1992 Kappa State Committee and was awarded a Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Scholarship. She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church, where she was a part of the Danho Sunday School class. She was a past President of the United Methodist Women. She had many hobbies which included playing golf and bridge. Mrs. Edmonson was preceded in death by her husband, parents and two brothers, J.E. Clifford and L.C. Clifford, and a granddaughter, Martha Lynne DeMaine. Survivors include daughters, Sue Demaine of Sheridan and Melanie Edmonson of Pine Bluff; sister, Eloise Clifford Ellis of Fort Worth, Texas; three granddaughters, Mary Catherine Demaine-Ward (Rekeydris), Elizabeth Anne Thompson (Jared) and Jennifer Wise (Brad); great-granddaughters, Evelynne Wise and Savannah Ward; two nieces, Nita Ellis and Mary Lee Cruz; and nephew Clifford Ellis (Patricia). A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 19, 2018 in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son with a visitation an hour before the service. The family would like to give a special thanks to Saline Memorial Hospice for their outstanding compassion and care given to Evelyne.
