William M. Arnold Sr.

WILLIAM M. "BILL" ARNOLD JR., 83, of Sherwood passed away Thursday, June 14, 2018. He was born in Sardis, Miss., to parents Hazel and Bud Arnold. He graduated from Sardis High School. Two weeks spent in the oil fields of Texas convinced him that a career in the Air Force would be a better choice. He spent 36+ years serving his country before retiring. During this time, he received several commendations. Shortly after retiring, Bill began working for Modern Woodmen of America Life Insurance Company and continued until his first of four strokes beginning in 2016. He fought a good battle but could not win. He is preceded in death by his father, William M. Arnold Sr.; mother, Hazel Goforth Arnold; brothers, Darryl Arnold and Clifton Arnold and sister, Brenda McCown. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 53 years, Dell Edwards Arnold; daughter, Pamela Lynn Ashmore (Tony); sister, Sarah Doss Thomas (J. L.); nephews Mike Doss (Kim) and Steve Doss (Tracey) along with many nieces and nephews and friends. He will be missed by all who knew him. A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20 at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home, 7724 Landers Road, NLR. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 21 with interment with military honors at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery at noon. Rev. Albert Hurst officiating.
