Lt. Colonel Samuel Langley, 80, of Little Rock, passed away March 5, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herschel and Saribel Langley, his sister, Willene Hendon, and brother-in-law, Bob. He is survived by his wife, Gwen Holton Langley; his daughter, Jennifer Herricks and husband, Dennis; his son, Patrick Langley; brother, George Langley; and sister-in-law, Brenda. Samuel grew up in Little Rock, graduated from Little Rock Central High School in 1956 and attended Texas A & M, from which he graduated with a degree in Marketing. After graduation, he got his first assignment as a 2nd Lieutenant with the 101st Airborne Division in Kentucky to Special Forces. He served two tours in Vietnam and was the Base Commander of the Post Office. As a Major, he was a Professor of Military Science at Austin Peay College in Clarksville, Tennessee. As Lt. Colonel, he spent his time as Commander /AG of U.S. Army Personnel of the Southern Region of NATO. During his last years in the Army, he served in Naples, Italy and Honolulu, Hawaii as Commander of Army Recreational Facilities. Samuel was an outdoorsy sort who loved golf, gardening, running marathons and fishing. He loved animals of all kinds, wanting them to be his pets. His love of music embraced all genres, including pop, country, opera and symphonic. He owned an antique shop in Georgia for several years, and was passionate about estate and garage sales. There will be a memorial service on Thursday, March 8 at 2 p.m. at St. James United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held in Erin, Tennessee by Nave's Funeral Home.
