Elizabeth "Betsy" Jackson Thompson, 88, of Pine Bluff, passed away Monday, March 12, 2018, at her home. Mrs. Thompson was born November 22, 1929, in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee, to the late Rufus Collier Jackson III and Mary Elizabeth Cecil Jackson. She was reared and received her education in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee, graduating from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1948. After high school, she attended the University of Georgia where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Education in 1952. Mrs. Thompson was a Physical Education Teacher and taught at Columbia, Tennessee and Washington State. She married William Thompson on June 10, 1954, in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee. Mrs. Thompson was a member of First United Methodist Church of Pine Bluff and Daughters of the American Revolution. Heirloom sewing was something that she enjoyed and was very good. She made custom ordered children's clothes. Mrs. Thompson is survived by her daughter, Eleanor Shaifer of Pine Bluff; son, William Mark (Beatrice) Thompson of Switzerland; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and her sister, Lillie Jackson of Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Thompson; her brother, Rufus Collier "Buck" Jackson, IV; and her sister, Dale Hardison. There will be a memorial gathering at Mrs. Thompson's Home, Saturday, March 17, 2018, 2 to 4 p.m., 902 West 44th Avenue, Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Burial will be private at a later date.
