John Joseph "Jack" Murphy

John Joseph "Jack" Murphy died March 16, 2018. He was born March 31, 1939 to Eugene and Susan Murphy. He was the youngest of five children. Jack joined the US Navy at the age of 17 after graduating high school in 1956. He met his wife Dorothy the same year. While he was serving, the two corresponded by letters. They were married March 15, 1958. The couple had a daughter and three sons. After leaving the Navy, Jack worked as an accountant for most of his working years. The Murphy's relocated to Wesley, Arkansas in 1980 where Jack worked at Warren Tool, then Northwest Arkansas Paper Co. and Gray Brothers Bag until he retired. Jack enjoyed tending to his farm in Wesley where he raised cows for many years. He liked sitting on the front porch of his house, listening to the quiet, and looking at the stars. He enjoyed going to Daylight Donuts in Elkins with friends on Sunday mornings. He enjoyed family gatherings during the holidays. He would get up early every Memorial Day Weekend to make spaghetti known by the family as "the sauce". Friends were always welcome. Jack is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughter, Elaine Belcher and husband, Michael; son, David and wife, Cathy, son, Michael and wife, Cyndi and son, Patrick and wife, Rachel; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. At Jack's request, there will not be a formal funeral service. In lieu of flowers, or in remembrance of Jack, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
