James Preston "Jay" Fulfer, Jr., age 89, a resident of Springdale, Ark., passed from this life March 26, 2018 in Springdale. He was born August 21, 1928, in Idalou, Texas to James Preston and Fannie Rae (Bentley) Fulfer. He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Harold David Fulfer; his infant son, Bruce Dwayne Fulfer; and his siblings, Virginia Quante, "Jack" Fulfer, Annie Fulfer, Brady Fulfer, Jimmie Lee "Babe" Fulfer, and Ethel "Sis" Draper. Jay was a member of Springdale First Assembly of God, where he served as a deacon and was Father of the Year. He was a Light for the Lost Councilman and Section 1 Men's Ministries Director. He was a volunteer at Northwest Medical Center for 10 years. "Pops" was a strong, hardworking man. He went to work for Jones Truck Lines on June 19, 1950, a dedicated employee there for 41 years. He served as the Union Steward for Local 823. He loved everything about his job: the freight, driving a truck, and serving his customers. Although he was offered promotions, he was successful, happy and content where God had placed him. Jay married his sweetheart, Catherine LaWanda Fields, on June 18, 1950. They shared 67 happy years together. He was devoted to his family. He loved Scripture and sharing them with others. He will always be remembered for his Christian character and as a role model. Our profound loss is shared by the many lives he touched. Left to cherish "Pops'" memory are his loving wife, LaWanda; his son, Larry Fulfer and his wife, Roberta "Bertie"; his daughter-in-law, Jeanne Fulfer; his sister, Fannie Evert; four grandchildren, Amy Jones and her husband, Mark, Jared Fulfer and his wife, Amanda, Colby Fulfer and his wife, Rachel, and Justin Fulfer; seven great-grandchildren, Graham Jones, Bella Jones, Abigail Fulfer, Faith Fulfer, Reagan Fulfer, Mallory Fulfer, and Paige Fulfer; and a host of friends and buddies.
