Surrounded by fresh flowers from her yard, while listening to the Gaithers, Clara Mae Hayes "Nanny" of Sherwood slipped peacefully from her home of 53 years to have breakfast with Jesus on Wednesday morning, May 2, 2018. She was born January 20, 1924 in Richwoods, AR to the late Ora Stroud and Lue Vena Dixon Stroud. Clara faithfully attended Curtis Assembly of God and after moving to North Little Rock she became a dedicated member of Lynch Drive Assembly of God. She spent her early years caring for her family in Gurdon, Arkansas. After her husband passed, she managed the shoe department at Wal-Mart store #7 for 26 years. Nanny retired to happily pass time working in the yard with her little "potnah", Blake, and travel on laughter filled adventures with Shirley. Clara devoted many happy years serving the community with her brother and sister in law at Fishnet Missions in Jacksonville. Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Maynard (David) and son, Sammy Hayes (Judy); grandchildren, Robin Maynard, Mimi Martin, Holly MacMurdo (Lee), John David Maynard and Phillip Maynard (Buffy); great-grandchildren, Blake, Jordyn (Chris), Jacob, Reese, Addison, Halle, MaKenzie, Cole, Brandon (Corbinn), Adam, Katie, Chloe, Jake (Bailea) and Haley; seven great-great-grandchildren; sister, Evelyn Carson; and other beloved family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hayes; and brothers, Olen and R.W. Stroud. Visitation will be from 5–7 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2018 at Smith-North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main Street. The celebration of her life will be held at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2018. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Harts Chapel Cemetery, Curtis, Ark.
