JOHN HAMMEL TABOR, age 77, a longtime resident of North Little Rock, passed from this life on May 4, 2018. Raised in Sardis, Ark., he was born the son of the late Ernest Tabor and Vida (Green) Tabor. He leaves his wife of 55 years, Susan (Davis) Tabor; his son John Michael (Mike) Tabor and wife Kristy of North Little Rock; his daughter Laura Tabor Skinner and husband Brian Skinner of North Little Rock; and six grandchildren: Alex and Jake Tabor, Emily, Luke, Sam and Mason Skinner. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Tina Tidwell and Mary Tabor both of Pine Bluff. After graduating from Pine Bluff High School in 1958, he attended Henderson State University, graduating in 1962 with a Bachelors degree in Economics and Psychology. He received his Masters degree in Counseling from Arkansas State Teachers College in 1970. After six years with the North Little Rock school district as a history teacher and a school counselor, Mr. Tabor went to work for the Veterans Approval Agency where he served as the director for 20 plus years. He retired from the Veterans Approval Agency in 1999. Mr. Tabor was an active member of the Lakewood United Methodist Church for 50 years. He enjoyed spending time at Lake Hamilton, traveling with his wife and spending time with his family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at Lakewood United Methodist Church at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 9, 2018 with a reception following in Gibson Hall. Private burial will be at Forest Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to ARORA or Lakewood United Methodist Church. Online guestbook at www.SmithFamilyCares.com.
