Rev. William D. Elliott, age 85, of Maumelle passed away on May 6, 2018 surrounded by his family. Bill was born October 19, 1932, in Texarkana, AR to the late Ruth and James Ira Dean Elliott. He graduated from Texarkana High School. Hearing the call to preach at age 12, Bill later graduated from Hendrix College and seminary at SMU. He met Ethel Lu Teague at the Camp Tanako in Hot Springs. After becoming engaged on their second date, they were married November 27, 1964. During their 54 years of marriage they were fortunate to travel to 47 states, Europe and Asia. Many fond memories of family trips remain with Lu and their children. Brother Bill served many United Methodist congregations in his 40 plus years of service to the church. Beginning as an Associate Pastor at First United Methodist Church in Magnolia, Ark., Bill went on to serve on the Chidester Circuit, also serving churches around the state including De Queen, Pine Bluff, Monticello, Little Rock, Searcy and Stuttgart. Bill is survived by his wife, Lu, three sons and their wives, Dean (Jacquelyn), Lee (Astrid), John Paul (Rhonda), five grandchildren whom he adored and who brought him great joy. He was predeceased by his parents and one brother, James. He is also survived by his two sisters, Emma Owenby and Ann Honeycutt. Service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 11, 2018 at Trinity United Methodist Church, with Jay Sweningson and Rev. Don Hall officiating. Visitation will be 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 10, 2018 at the church. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Bill's grandchildren: Grant, Caroline, Lauren, Arden and Will Elliott and also Bill and Lu's Sunday School class, the Open Door Class.
