Martha Ann Havens Ayers went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, after complications from pneumonia; she was 92. Martha was born in Pleasant Valley, Arkansas, to William Edward and Verna Ann Arthur Havens on April 9, 1926, the 10th of 12 children. After graduation from Greenbrier High School in 1944, Martha became a telephone operator in Conway. Her brother Arthur introduced her to the love of her life at the Havens family Thanksgiving in 1949; Martha and Maurice Lee Ayers married on July 3, 1950. She enjoyed her life as a Navy wife, making life-long friends from Florida to California. Upon his retirement from the Navy in 1965, the family returned to her home state of Arkansas, settling in Conway. She was an active member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church and participated in various support groups for Conway Public Schools where her daughter was a student. Martha was a fifteen year employee at Conway Mills adding to her large circle of friends. She was always pleased to open her home to guests hosting countless wedding showers, baby showers, Sunday school parties, and family Christmas Eve gatherings. Their annual Harvest Costume party was actually Maurice's project, but Martha took care of all the behind the scenes elements, making sure there was plenty to eat and drink along with lots of treats for the children. After their retirement from their second careers, "Grandmom" and "Chief" enjoyed traveling to watch their grandson participate in a variety of sports for many years. Mrs. Ayers was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, her parents, nine brothers, and two sisters. She is survived by a daughter and her husband, Mala and Gary Rogers, of North Little Rock; a grandson, Drew Rogers and his fiancée, Lindsey Hixson of Sherwood; two great-grandsons, Rhett and Brady Rogers; a sister-in-law and her husband, Mary and Dan McIntyre of Yuba City, California; and a host of nieces and nephews. A celebration of Martha's life will be held at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, 676 Highway 25 in Greenbrier at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 22; internment will immediately follow at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Family visitation will be at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home, 650 Central Landing Boulevard in Conway on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the evening. Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church Building Fund or the Pleasant Valley Cemetery Fund. The family extends our utmost gratitude for the loving care she received from the staff at Robinson Nursing and Rehabilitation in North Little Rock, the nursing staff of 5East at CHI St. Vincent's in Little Rock as well as the staff of Kindred Hospice.
