James "Jim" Lewis Herrin

James "Jim" Lewis Herrin, 91, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, passed away on May 22, 2018 while in the care of Washington Regional Hospice. Jim was preceded in death earlier this year by his beloved wife, Joyce, of 67 years. A native of Fletcher, Oklahoma, he was born on March 24, 1927 to Druie B. Herrin and Carrie Lee Woodard. He served in the Navy at the end of WWII. Jim was one of the first siblings in his family to graduate from college with a Business Degree from the University of Oklahoma and earned a graduate degree from the LSU School of Banking. Jim is survived by three children. Son, Jay (April) Herrin of Harrison, Arkansas, and two daughters, Jamie Herrin, and Jo Mandy (Greg) Smithers, both of Denton, Texas. Four grandchildren are Jason Herrin, Melissa (Alan) Booth-Simonsen, Rachel and Sarah Smithers. One great grandchild is Olivia Booth-Simonsen. Jim is survived by one sister, Pernie McMahon of Norman, Oklahoma. Jim Herrin was the Senior Vice-President and Comptroller of First National Bank of Fayetteville when he retired in 1985. He was very active in the associations of banking throughout his career. He was known to be a "Bankers' Banker" and was a sought-after consultant for financial institutions following his retirement. He also felt it was important to serve the community and participated in many community service organizations throughout his life, such as Jaycees, Lions Club, Rotary, and the local Chambers of Commerce. He was active in First Baptist Church for 50 years and served as a greeter on Sunday mornings. He enjoyed all Arkansas Razorback sports, but especially basketball, since he played basketball in high school. And finally, Jim Herrin had a reputation as a competitive tennis player in Northwest Arkansas and even statewide, with many tournament wins and trophies too numerous to count. As requested by Jim, the family will hold a burial service in Fletcher Oklahoma at a later date. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Fayetteville, Arkansas.
