Earl Dee Slaughter, age 89 of Monticello, passed away Friday, May 25, 2018 at is home. He was born Sept. 23, 1928 in Drew County, Ark., to the late Jim Slaughter and Myrtle Brown Slaughter. He was a retired Command Sgt. Major in the United States Army with 25 plus years of service and served in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a devoted member of Rose Hill Cumberland Presbyterian. He had a great love for his church and church family. He was a very devoted, loving, caring husband, father, and friend. He loved growing things and could often be seen working in his garden. He was a friend to all animals and an ability to befriend any he encountered. He did amazing things with wood and produced several works of art out of his piddle shop. When he did take time to relax a bit, which was not often, he could often be seen reading or working puzzles. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, John Slaughter, Joe Slaughter and Lewis Slaughter; three sisters, Agnes Hood, Lois Judkins and Flora Mae Avery. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Manon Allen Slaughter of Monticello; one son, John Gregory Slaughter and wife Donna of Phoenix, Ariz.; one daughter, Debbie Slaughter Clark and husband Charles of Overland Park, Kan.; one grandson, Gregory Allen Slaughter and wife Elisa of Phoenix, Ariz.; one granddaughter, Christina Slaughter Kruse and husband Brian of Columbia Falls, Mont.; two great-granddaughters, Stella Kruse and Mia Kruse. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Rose Hill Cumberland Church with burial to follow in Rose Hill Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
