Robert E. (Bob) Tyler 82 of Conway went home to the Lord on Saturday, May 26, 2018. He was born May 20, 1936 in Conway, Ark., to the late Edgar and Catherine (Moix) Tyler. Robert was life-long member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he served on many committees including: Parish Council, Bazaar Committee, Friends of Saint Joseph, Finance Council, School Board, and Choir just to name a few. He was active in the community as well as, serving as Conway Chamber of Commerce President, President of the Faulkner Co. United Way, Grand Knight and Knight of the Year for the Knights of Columbus, President Associated General Contractors of Arkansas, Optimist Club, and University of Arkansas Architectural Board member. He was actively involved with the Boy Scouts of America Quapaw Area Council Board, Foothills Chair, Camp Inspector, Silver Beaver Award Recipient, Troop Leader, and a proud father and grandfather of seven Eagle Scouts. He also served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He was a graduate ASTC (UCA) with a bachelor's of science with the intent to become a teacher. He then started his career at Nabholz Construction as the fifth employee of the company and hired by Bob Nabholz to sweep floors and type. He rose through the ranks to estimator, projector manager, to president and the first non-family member to lead the company. He served as a Nabholz Board member during his tenure and continued on the Board upon his retirement in 1996, with over 57 years of service to Nabholz. One of his proudest achievements was his work with the Apprentice Carpentry Program at Nabholz, training young people to be successful in the construction industry. This stemmed from his love of education and teaching. He enjoyed country music, travel, gardening, candy making, history and geography, and teaching his grandchildren about work and value of learning something new every day. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 59 years Theresa Ann (Hartman) Tyler who he loved and cherished. His sons Alton (Angie) Freyburger, Richard (Carla) Tyler, Tim (Jerry) Tyler, daughters Janet (Freyburger) Steele, Bobbie Ann (Hank) Merkel, Jackie (Mike) Harrell, Patty (Paul) Wellinghoff; 20 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and countless nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brothers Ed (Missye) Tyler, Mark (Sharon) Tyler, and his sister Carolyn Tyler. He was proceeded in death by his sister Dorothy Yunk. Rosary will be held Wednesday, May 30th at 6 p.m. followed by visitation at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Conway, Ark. Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, May 31 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph with Father Jason Tyler officicating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Joseph School Endowment.
