James Walter "Jim" York, 77, of Jacksonville died Saturday, May 26, 2018 in Little Rock. He was born May 25, 1941 in Asheboro, North Carolina to the late James H. and Alice S. Saunders York. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. Mr. York served his country in the United States Air Force for 20 years and was very active in a number of veterans causes. He was a life member of the VFW and past commander of VFW Post 4548 in Jacksonville. Jim enjoyed visiting veterans in the VA hospital and volunteering his time for the betterment of veterans throughout central Arkansas. He enjoyed shooting pool at the VFW post, bowling and golf. In addition to his parents, Mr. York was preceded in death by a son, Michael York. Mr. York is survived by his wife Emily Vega York; children, Roger York of Jacksonville, Susan Tanner of Sherwood, Charles Gurunian of Lonoke and Mandy Rawdon and her husband, Jeff of Jacksonville; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; siblings, Jerry York of Baltimore, Maryland, Martha Allmon of Asheboro, North Carolina, Ronald York and his wife, Barbara of Red Oak, Texas and Dianne Moore and her husband, Richard of Port Orange, Florida and aunts and uncles, Gracie and Burl Lawson and Franklin and Peggy Saunders. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2018 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home with Deacon Ernie Gallegos and Chaplain Kevin McGee officiating. Burial will follow at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7 p.m. with a Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
