Alix Nichols, 92, of Little Rock known as "A.J." by many went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 30, 2018. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a great-great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and May Nichols; brother, Dempsey Nichols; sisters, Cleva Lierly and Treva Wright; wife, Kathryn Nichols; and a grandson, Michael David Nichols. He is survived by his wife, Helen Nichols; sister, Winnie Isom (Joe); son, Jay Nichols (Linda); stepson, Joe Jones (Marilyn); two grandsons: Steven Nichols (Laurie) and Chad Nichols; granddaughter-in-law, Rebecca Nichols; three great-grandchildren, Alexandria Brewer (Tim), Lauren Nichols Johnson, Michael David Nichols, Jr. and Addison Nichols; two great-great-grandchildren, Davis Brewer, Abel Johnson; and many nephews and nieces. He was a member of First Assembly of God in North Little Rock, served in the Army during World War II and was honorably discharged in November 1944. A.J. spent 35 years at Veterans Administration Hospital, Fort Roots in North Little Rock and during those years he also sold cars at Jennings Motors and Balch Motors in Little Rock at night and on weekends. After retiring from the V.A. he spent 23 years at Arch Street Fire Department in Little Rock from 1974-1997 and was a Fire chief for many of those years. A visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m., Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Smith-North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main Street, followed by the Funeral at 3 p.m. Interment will be in Ivy Chapel Cemetery, 678 Ivy Chapel Road, Little Rock.
