James A. Smalley, age 90, of Little Rock passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Nora Smalley; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Jewell Smalley, and son-in-law, John Savage. James is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ella V. Smalley and two daughters, Janis Savage and Glenda (Andy) Bloxom, all of Benton; three granddaughters, Ashley (Hadyn) Thomas, Bridget and Candee Jo Bloxom. James was a Veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict. For 35 years, James served the Arkansas Baptist Convention as a BSU (Baptist Student Union) Director at SAU, UCA, UALR and UAMS. After retiring, James was a volunteer for AARP, the Clinton Library and served as an on-call Chaplin at the VA. He loved to travel and spend time on the open road in their RV from campground to campground. He was a long-time member of Pulaski Heights Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school and served as a Deacon. The family invites friends to a celebration of life service officiated by Dr. Randy Hyde at 11 a.m., Friday, June 1, 2018 at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home, 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, Ark.
