James Carter Harris

James Carter Harris, 90, of Huntsville, died August 29, 2018 at home. He was born January 31, 1928, in Huntsville, to Grover and Annie Hawkins Harris. He was a dairy farmer, heavy equipment operator, and served his country as a Seaman, Second Class, in the US Navy during World War II. James was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, three sisters, and one great-granddaughter, Larissa Harris. He is survived by his wife, Gladys Canion Harris of the home; three sons, Roy Elsey of Huntsville, James Harris of Van Buren, and Chuck Harris of Huntsville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jackie and Larry Fliss of Conway, and Lana and Jim Couch of Huntsville; one brother, Dr. Robert Harris of College Station, Texas; one sister, Roberta Appleton of Huntsville; 13 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at 10 a.m., Friday, August 31, 2018, at Brashears Funeral Home in Huntsville. Services will immediately follow at 11 a.m. with Butch Bolinger officiating. Interment will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 4, 2018, at Fayetteville National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kenny Harris, Keith Harris, Carter Fliss, Andres Baez, Jackson Fliss, Tyler Crowder, Josh Bunch, Roy Dale Elsey, and Michael Elsey. Services are entrusted to Brashears Funeral Home and Crematory of Huntsville.
