Description

At the root of Flying Fish's sustained popularity is consistently commendable food served at reliably reasonable prices. The good value is more of a lure in this year of soaring gasoline prices and festering economic angst - even if those penny-pinching motives are unlikely to account for Jennings and Mitzi Osborne's presence on a recent Sunday afternoon.
The vast majority of the menu's 70-plus items, dished up in ample portions, cost less than $10. That includes the current seasonal treat of Mud Bugs, a pound of flavorful boiled crawfish for $4.99 (served only on weekends).
Devotees of those petite freshwater crustaceans can also savor Crawfish Chowder at $3.79 per cup, $4.79 per bowl. The decadently creamy chowder, laced with crawfish bits and potatoes, rivals Flying Fish's superlatively spicy Seafood Gumbo ($3.79/$5.99) as a fully satisfying lunch on its own - abetted by the stash of soda crackers on each table.
