Description

Koto is the Hannah Montana of Little Rock Japanese restaurants. Like Miley Cyrus' persona, an average girl by day and a rock star at night, Koto leads a similar double life. It might be composed and calm - save for the occasional clanging of utensils and superfluous bursts of fire - at lunch and dinner. But late at night Wednesday through Saturday, it can be "Funkytown," with a lively karaoke scene that attracts a spirited mix of ages, talent levels and sake tolerances. If we hadn't heard about this night life through word of mouth and experienced it for ourselves on a Friday a few months ago, we'd never suspect it takes place in a sleepy Chenal Valley strip center. The only clue we spotted in the restaurant during recent dining visits was a disco light sitting shyly in the off position in the sushi bar. As a restaurant Koto, which has been open two years, leads a triple life, specializing in sushi and teppanyaki entrees as well as "bistro" cuisine, to accommodate cravings as diverse as the Jacksonville Roll (spicy crawfish, albacore and cream cheese), cooked-on-a-grillwhile- you-watch Hibachi Steak and cooked-in-a-kitchen-whileyou- don't-watch bacon-wrapped Flaming Scallops. A wide variety of budgets
