— April Smith Bivens became the bride of William Matthew Bale at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, at The Greens at North Hills in Sherwood. The Rev. Alex Averitt, cousin of the bride, officiated.

The bride is the daughter of Kay and Colin Smith, 57 Sunset Drive, North Little Rock. Her grandparents are Kathleen and Carl Smith of Little Rock, Jean Rogers Najacht of Sherwood and the late Homer Rogers.

Beverly and Gene Bale, 7209 Gable Drive, are the parents of the bridegroom. He is the grandson of Myrtle Scarborough, the late Thomas M. Scarborough and the late Mary Ella and John H. Bale, all of Little Rock.

The ceremony site was decorated with arrangements of white calla lilies and a mix of white, green and pink roses. Music was by guitarist Josh Green.

Given in marriage by her father and her sons, Brock and Sawyer Bivens, the bride wore a white satin taffeta gown with a chapel-length train and sheer Renaissance-style sleeves. She carried a bouquet of white calla lilies and roses.

Mary Lee Welch of Little Rock was maid of honor. Thomas Bale of Lamar served as his brother’s best man.

Guests were seated by the best man;Clay Smith of Little Rock, brother of the bride; and the bride’s son Brock.

A reception at The Greens at North Hills followed the ceremony. Black-and-white photographs of the couple, their family and friends were attached to black-and-white satin ribbons displayed throughout the room. Josh Green also provided music for the reception. Assisting were April Averitt, Alexandria Haley, Victoria Haley, Jenny Pearson and Suzanna Pearson, cousins of the bride, and Kandyce Scarborough, cousin of the bridegroom.

The bride attended Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, where she was a member of Delta Zeta sorority. She received a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and a master’s degree with honors in social work from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She is a child and family therapist with a clinic in North Little Rock.

The bridegroom has a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, where he was a member of the OBU golf team. He is a technical support coordinator with Verizon Wireless.

The couple will live in Sherwood and plan a honeymoon for later.
