2 killed when motorcycle crashes on Arkansas highway

A man and a woman were killed Saturday afternoon when their motorcycle crossed the centerline on an Arkansas highway and was struck by an oncoming vehicle, authorities said.

It happened about 3 p.m. on Arkansas 187 west of Beaver, according to an Arkansas State Police report.

Jeffery James Schneider, 53, of Omaha, was riding a 2000 Yamaha west on the highway with 52-year-old Laurie Ann Schneider as a passenger, the report said.

In a curve, the motorcycle crossed into eastbound traffic. Jeffery Schneider overcorrected, causing the motorcycle to lay on its right side, the report said. Its rear tire was then struck by the front bumper of an eastbound Dodge, police said.

Both riders suffered fatal injuries. The Dodge driver was not listed as hurt.

Conditions at the time were said to be clear and dry.

At least 344 people have died in traffic crashes on Arkansas roads so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
