Restaurant Transitions: Captain Hooks under construction on JFK; Three Fold, The Vault now open

Our eagle-eyed readers report some activity, indicating work appears to have finally gotten underway, at Captain Hooks Fish & Chicken, 6725 John F. Kennedy Blvd., North Little Rock, next to Indian Hills Shopping Center. A new streetside sign has been erected, interior construction work appears to have resumed, or at least started, and one of our eagle-eyed correspondents spotted a soft-drink company service truck in the parking lot. The grounds, which provoked the city to plaster the front door with "notice of public nuisance" signs because the owners weren't properly taking care of the green space on the property, have been cleaned up and the notice removed. However, some windows, including the drive-through, still bear signs proclaiming the closure of the previous occupant, a Dunkin Donuts/Baskin Robbins hybrid.

Brokerage firm CBI Central Arkansas provided us last week with some flawed information on the sale of Graffiti's, 7811 Cantrell Road, Little Rock. The new owners are, in fact, Armando and Sarah Bolanos, with their partners, parents/in-laws Ana Lara and Carlos Valdivieso, who also own and operate La Terraza Rum & Lounge, 3003 Kavanaugh Blvd., in Little Rock's Hillcrest district. Sarah Bolanos says they're planning no major changes for a while; they'll hold a meet-and-greet Wednesday to get feedback from regular customers and as a send-off for the previous owners, David Jones and Patrick Dayer. "We plan on keeping it Graffiti's," Bolanos says. "We're only working to improve it. It's been around for 32 years, so clearly it's doing something right." Customer feedback will enter into their planning for any menu changes, but you probably won't see any changes until at least January, and anything new will likely be introduced first as specials, she says. The family is also eyeing ways to bring in new customers and some additional uses for the 30-seat private dining room that's only being used now for private parties. Hours will remain 5-9 p.m. weekdays, 5-9:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday. The restaurant phone number is (501) 224-9079.

The people who run Three Fold Noodles and Dumpling Co. missed the target to open Monday in its new location, 611-615 Main St., Little Rock -- they were ready but the city inspectors weren't, quite. So Three Fold opened at 7 a.m. Tuesday instead. Hours are 7-10:30 a.m. for breakfast, 11 a.m.-9 p.m. for lunch/dinner, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday; there are no plans to open on Sunday. The phone number remains (501) 372-1739.

The Vault Restaurant and Grill is now open in the former Say McIntosh Restaurant and Sweet Potato Pie Factory, 2801 W. Seventh St., Little Rock. The menu offers wings, fried fish and shrimp, sandwiches and burgers, salads and McIntosh's sweet potato pie, by the slice or by the pie. Hours are 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Saturday. The phone number is (501) 353-0739.

The Fuzzy's Taco Shop chain, which has one central Arkansas location -- 140 John Harden Drive, Jacksonville, (501) 457-7953, as well as outlets in Texarkana, Fayetteville and Rogers -- is celebrating National Taco Day, Wednesday, with $1 tacos all day. The dine-in-only deal includes breakfast tacos but not their fajita, shrimp and "California Heat" tacos. Visit the website, fuzzystacoshop.com.
