Arkansas officer fired day after video posted showing him tell black men 'You don't belong in my city'

A central Arkansas police officer was fired a day after a video posted to social media showed him telling a group of black men they didn't belong in his city.

The England Police Department confirmed in a one-sentence news release that officer Michael Moore was fired Wednesday.

In the Facebook video posted by England native Demarcus Bunch, he and his cousin accused Moore of following them July 21 while they were in town filming a music video.

“I started to think about all the stuff that goes on in the world with police brutality and all the different killings,” he said.

When they decided to introduce themselves, Moore can be seen in the video saying, "You don't belong in my city. I know who my people are. I have never seen you here before, and I know almost everybody here.”

Bunch then mentions his former address and tells Moore that he graduated from England High School. The officer responds by saying he's from the "big city" and not from the small town of less than 3,000 people.

The men said they filed a formal complaint with the Police Department, but two weeks later, they had not received any updates.

In response, Bunch decided to post the video, which had more than 37,000 views and 1,000 shares as of Friday.

"In a city in which we grew up, attended school and still have relatives, including our grandmother, we now all fear driving to or through England because of the one police officer presented in this video," Bunch wrote in the Tuesday post.

Moore was fired the next day.

"There's maybe six officers on England’s force, so it’s not like [the police chief] has 100 officers to investigate,” Bunch said in an interview with the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette on Friday. "I think he was fired because it hit the media, not because of his actions. Other than that, I believe he’d still be working there."

This story and the video made international news. I don’t see how England ever hired the guy in the first place. If you watch the video, he clearly proves himself to be a BSC racist ahole. He should never work in LE again; someone will needlessly die if he does so.

Come on guys, the SCOTUS has says that racist thing is not there any more, and no need to worry about it.[ some might say this proves GM is not a racist, it is he just has a thing against blacks, kinda like me, Estonians and pawnee indians , dont know what it is, they just irritate me and I know some are of low morals, so I dont set next to them on a bus]

Dont feel sorry for the officer as I am sure GM and abb will take up a collection to give him a hero welcome at the next harrison good old boy meeting.

Is "my" city like my "church", or my "country"? I would suggest checking the real estate records when I am told that. Sometimes these types are just full of BS and hate and , of course lie.

This man may very well be a racist - I am not one to judge from a single article in the paper. As one who lives in a small town - the police officers know every person and vehicle in town and when they see one that "doesn't belong" their awareness is heightened. I choose to believe that this officer used a poor choice of words when he said "you don't belong in my city" and wasn't intentionally inferring anything about race.

Hogfan, these men actually are "from his city". Did you not read the article?

A police officer's job is extremely difficult and frightening. It requires many skills including a certain temperament and demeanor. An officer must have a way with people that is more approachable than combative and more diplomatic than disrespectful. This former officer was obviously not cut out for the job.

DB...We (criminal defense attorneys) have seen idiots like this over and over again through out Arkansas. It is nice to see one finally get tossed out, however, I have seen more than one get fired and show up in another District as an officer. I saw an officer up in Judsonia, Lie and be caught perjuring himself, and was later fired from being an LEO in that small town (or near there). Then about 3 months later I was in Austin, Arkansas district court and there sit the same idiot working for another small town near Austin. He got on the stand in my case, and I demonstrated that he had perjured himself before, and the Judge didn't give a crap. I sent the two cases to his current employer and got a hate letter from his boss saying "...if you think you can be a better officer than XXX then do it. We don't have enough officers to keep these black gangs out of our town and you should be ashamed of yourself representing one of them." I turned him in to Arkansas agency and nothing has been done. I definitely do not drive near that town (except for work), because I would be afraid of what they would do to me.

WHY? It is a fundamental right to travel within the United States. This cop, you nor anyone has a right to infringe upon that right. HELL, our courts cannot even stop a mom moving to Alaska with her kids, even if dad will only get to see them in the summer, but dad will have to keep sending her that check to go on dates and pay for that babysitter.

Looks to me like these guys were looking for trouble. Why would you pull out a phone and walk up to a cop to talk to him. If you aren't doing something wrong then ignore him and go about your business. This is how these deals turn into trouble. If I am pulled over because I have a taillight out and start acting all crazy and pull out my phone to record everything then he should have a right to be suspicious of something and wonder why is this guy acting crazy and recording everything. That just seems weird to me. He has to watch out for his own safety. Not all cops are bad cops. They get that wrap because most of the people they are dealing with are thugs that are usually doing something that they shouldn't be. Like stealing instead of working, being a parent instead of a gangster want a be, being a role model working family man to their child or baby mamma whatever you want to call it.

RBear...He probably is. They just shuffle these corrupt bastards from one jurisdiction to another. I was looking at some public information and some of these officers make more money than teachers (who after the raise that ASA is talking about) make more than entry level attorneys. That lawsuit filed over FOIA in the Rutledge situation showed that she made just over $40k whereas if this democrat running for governor wins teachers salaries will go to almost $50k. I made $60k as a local truck driver while working on my undergrad. We really need to work on salaries in Arkansas not just minimum wage, but the professionals like teachers and public attorneys. Some say that the attorneys get their student loans paid if they work for PD or prosecutor for 10 years. However, they have to report the payoff of student loans as income in the year they are paid. Therefore, they will be paying taxes for the next 5 years. I personally don't know the answer, but maybe cut out public attorneys (except prosecutors who have to work for the state) and hire outside attorneys for the work. At least that would get rid of the huge retirement benefits public attorneys earn. Now if you want to see something corrupt check out the retirement and how it works. Example, public attorney works for state 17 years at approximately $40k per year. The last 3 years they take some higher level job (that no one wants), but pays $100k. There retirement is based off the highest 3 years of pay. I don't know how I got off on that but just pissed off at this cop.

LRCrook appreciate the vent. You made some good points in it. Yes, this cop is about as corrupt as they come. From what I've seen, it's a good old boy system that trickles down to smaller jurisdictions. I've seen it more here in AR than what I saw in TX. Not sure why as there are a HECK of a lot more small towns there than here. It's just disgusting to see them try to act out their power trips on innocent citizens.

Channel 11 last night said that he had been let go at the Lonoke
Sheriffs Dept because he couldn't get along. The State needs to revoke his Law enforcement training. I am not sure this guy even needs to work as a Rent-A-Cop without a weapon.

Does shed aporopriate and illuminating light on the problems with bad apples who legally carry weapons of destruction. Some people cannot comment just because of who their ancestors were.
We know most are good some are bad. But with the power they wield over life and Death bad apples must be sorted out.

RPC - It sounds as if you also haven’t seen the video with audio. This article doesn’t approach the detail there. The cop stalked them from location to location. They decided to approach him to introduce themselves and to politely address any issues he might have. It was only based on his response that they began filming. He should have approached them, intro’d himself, and asked them what they were up to. When the PD didn’t respond to their complaint after 2.5 weeks, they only then posted the video.

I wonder if some even read the article by the way they responded and defended this poor excuse for a LEO. It doesn't matter what evidence it presented to show his actions and no matter how egregious their actions are, some folks are going to support the bad apples. Even the cops that work with bad apples won't rid themselves of these dangerous cowards hiding behind a badge and gun.
