Warrant amnesty offered next month

Next month, anyone with a failure to pay, comply or appear warrant in Little Rock District Court can appear in court to address those warrants without being arrested.

No additional fines, costs or penalties will be added to the person's file. It's part of the city's Amnesty Program, which it typically does for a month once a year.

Anyone interested in participating can go to the district court building at 600 W. Markham St. between 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. any weekday during February.

Information on eligibility is available at the criminal court clerk's office at (501) 371-4739 or the criminal court probation department at (501) 371-4725.

"This amnesty program is an effort to get more violators to complete the obligations of their sentences," Judge Hugh Finkelstein said in a news release.

Architect to speak on bridging society

Martin Smith of the Ecological Design Group will speak today about Arkansas Delta culture and how the design of buildings can be used to promote social engagement in communities.

Smith, a native Arkansan, is a partner and landscape architect with the Ecological Design Group, which has offices in Little Rock, Wynne and Rogers.

His 6 p.m. lecture Tuesday at the Arkansas Arts Center lecture hall will discuss bridging gaps between groups who have little in common and how architecture plays a role in that. The center is at 501 E. Ninth St. in Little Rock.

The talk is presented by the Architecture and Design Network.

Heart & Soul growth model topic of talk

The executive director of a nonprofit that has worked to illustrate why communities should have a say in how they grow will talk about the concept Thursday at the University of Arkansas Clinton School for Public Service.

The community development model used by the Orton Family Foundation is called Community Heart & Soul.

Orton Executive Director David Leckeywill talk about the nonprofit's work and highlight examples at noon Thursday at Sturgis Hall, 1200 President Clinton Ave.

"By coming together and determining what matters most to everyone, communities have seen economic development take hold, collaboration occur across longstanding divides, and renewed pride of place," a news release about the event said.

A City Council member from Gardiner, Maine, will speak about how the model sparked transformation and economic development in her town.
