Man killed in head-on crash after vehicle crosses centerline of U.S. highway in Arkansas

A 74-year-old Arkansas man died after a vehicle crossed the centerline and struck the vehicle he was driving, authorities said.

It happened shortly after 7:30 p.m. Sunday on U.S. 64 east of Menifee in Conway County, according to an Arkansas State Police report.

Police said Fred Fletcher of Morrilton was driving a 2016 Nissan west on the highway when an eastbound 2007 Chrysler veered into the opposing lane and hit the front of his vehicle.

Fletcher suffered fatal injuries. A second person was listed as being hurt, though the report didn't identify the person or indicate the extent of the injuries.

The report also didn't indicate why the Chrysler may have crossed the centerline. Conditions at the time were said to be clear and dry.

The death is one of five reported in traffic crashes on Arkansas roads so far this year.
