Where I live: Capitol View, with my husband, Aaron Baldwin, and our two fine canines, Mozambique and Sudan.

Occupation: Costume designer. I am the former costume director at the Arkansas Repertory Theatre; I teach costume construction and design at Hendrix College.

My favorite space is: Our little perfect kitchen.

Why? Our 1938 house was completely remodeled before we bought it and the folks who did the work paid special attention to the kitchen. Everything you need is at hand and there's lots of counter space and storage. It's where the action is in our house. My scientist husband is a great cook, and we try to eat dinner together as often as possible. Usually, I stay out of the way and entertain him and the dogs while he sweats it out over our dinner. We talk about work, politics and gossip; we also make up stories about what the dogs have been up to while we're at work. We learned long ago that it's best if one of us cooks and the other stays clear since we're both very certain, oldest children. Our kitchen is perfect for one person, with all the America's Test Kitchen curated kitchen utensils that you could ever want and our well-seasoned favorite cast iron skillet. And me, I'm sitting on the floor with the dogs and my wine, talking about what I heard on NPR, looking forward to an amazing Spanish omelet.

If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: teach the dogs to do the dishes.
