A central Arkansas high school art teacher is accused of having sexual contact with a student, authorities say.

On Monday, a school resource officer at Mayflower High School was informed that sexual contact between a student and a teacher in the district had taken place, according to the city's Police Department.

Jessica Kaplan, 31, was arrested on a charge of first-degree sexual assault shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday, authorities said.

Kaplan was being held at the Faulkner County jail in lieu of $10,000 bond as of Wednesday morning, according to the prosecuting attorney's office.

Mayflower School District superintendent John Gray declined to comment on the arrest. Kaplan was still listed as an art teacher on Mayflower High School's website as of Wednesday afternoon.

I can't help but think that all of the sexual crap available on the web is helping to stimulate these incidents. I worry that all of our young people are seeing pornographic videos of taboo situations and are thinking that is "normal" sexual activity. I am not blaming the internet but I think that it is having a strong negative effect.

Folks have been molesting and raping forever. Porn has nothing to do with. You just hear about it more now because
1. People aren't allowing it to go on the way they used to
2. The internet is great at spreading information

Unicorn...........women teachers having sex with male students was unheard of years back.

I have never been on an internet site where ANY male said it happened to them years back.

Maybe she is due a presumption of innocence pending results of a trial, and maybe the rest of us could benefit from avoiding ignorant comments about race and juvenile fantasies.

I think this kind of activity started back in the 70s. The difference now, and reasons for getting discovered, is (1) there is communications between the two participators via text messages and sometimes photos and (2) the youth of today feel the need to tell/brag to someone. At this point there's been no mention of evidence, just accusations...perhaps by a kid that was failing art.

Is there any adult male who doesn't know someone who had a "Mrs. Robinson" moment in high school? That's not to say it's right or wrong but to say teenage boys and older women are somewhat commonplace. I personally know three boys that were under the age of 18 having carnal knowledge of older women, two of which were married and one a PE teacher. And all three boys thought they were real studs because of it and were more than willing participants.

I cannot count the times Packman has repeated this same theme. You need to work through your personal issues and come up with some new material, dude.

Hey Boltar - Ad hominem attack seems to be pretty much the best you can do these days. Try harder. Or perhaps you're just jealous you never experienced a "Mrs. Robinson" moment? Yep, I'm going with jealous.
Regardless, Boltar, since you made no quarrels with what I said thanks for agreeing.

Hey Boltar - Yes it does make you a supporter. Stop being jealous. It's not my fault you've never had a Mrs. Robinson moment.
Although, I understand. You likely spent your teenage years hating popular athletes and green with envy that all the good looking girls flocked to them while you were left taking your 2nd cousin to prom and you never got over it. Bless your heart.

Okay packman and boltar, this whole situation makes me really upset. I personally knew the teacher. She is a great person, she had good relationships with most students and she always was so helpful with the students discovering their talent. She was great. She's done a lot for this school's art program, she basically built it from the ground up. Before her, we had nothing. Anyway, the kid that is involved in this incident, i have no reason not to believe that he would've been the one to initiate it all, if it is true. At the moment, they're just accusations waiting to be proven true. Which hasn't happened yet.
