State police identify Arkansan killed in motorcycle crash

THURSDAY UPDATE:

State police have identified the Arkansas man who was killed in a motorcycle crash Wednesday afternoon.

According to a report released Thursday, 63-year-old Jerry Tate Baker was headed west on U.S. 62 in Green Forest on a 2001 Harley-Davidson when he crossed the highway's centerline while driving in a curve about 1:40 p.m.

The motorcycle then traveled off the south side of the road and struck a sign, the report states.

Authorities said the weather was cloudy and the road was dry at the time of the wreck.

At least 360 people have died in crashes on Arkansas roads this year, according to preliminary state police data.

WEDNESDAY STORY:

Authorities are investigating a fatal motorcycle wreck that stopped traffic Wednesday in Northwest Arkansas.

A spokeswoman for Arkansas State Police Toop L said the agency responded about 1:45 p.m. to U.S. 62, about 1 mile west of Arkansas 103, in Carroll County.

At least one person was confirmed dead, the spokeswoman said. The victim has not yet been identified, and details of the crash were not released.

An Arkansas Department of Transportation said all lanes of traffic in both directions of U.S. 62 were closed for about 90 minutes because of the crash. According to the agency, the road was clear by 3:30 p.m.
