Gwendolyn D. Hodge

GWENDOLYN D. HODGE of Little Rock, Ark., 45, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 29. She is survived by her parents, Dr. Charles and Elizabeth Hodge; one brother, Clinton Hodge (Pamela); nieces, Courtney Gray and Chantal Hodge; and nephews, Tyler and Devery Hodge; grandmothers, Barbara Hodge and Margaret Howze; and several uncles, aunts and cousins. Ms. Hodge was an assistant U. S. attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas and was actively involved in community service and the legal profession. She was an alumna of Little Rock Central High School, Wellesley College (Wellesley, Mass.) and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Bowen School of Law. Ms. Hodge rendered service to many professional and community organizations. She served as chair of the American Bar Association's Government Public Section Lawyers Division Council, member of the Arkansas Supreme Court Ethics Committee, parliamentarian of the Arkansas Bar Association, member of the Board of Governors of the Arkansas Bar Association and chair of the Arkansas Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division. She also served on the boards of the following organizations: University of Arkansas at Little Rock Board of Visitors, Pulaski County Bar Association Board of Directors, City of Little Rock Parks and Recreation Commission, UALR/Pulaski County Law Library Board, University of Arkansas at Little Rock Bowen School of Law Alumni Association Board, Big Brothers and Big Sisters Board of Directors, Advocates for Battered Women Board of Directors and Just Communities of Arkansas (formerly known as National Conference of Christians and Jews) Board of Directors. She was a member of the W. Harold Flowers Law Society, the Junior League of Little Rock, and the Little Rock Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. Ms. Hodge's honors included the Big Sister of the Year Award, Arkansas Bar Association's Frank Elcan II, Award, Federal Bureau of Prisons General Counsel's Exemplary Assistance Award and Young Alumnus of the Year Award from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Bowen School of Law. A memorial service will be held at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, 1109 S. State Street, Little Rock, on Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010, 1:30. Family visitation will be held Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010, 6-7 p.m., at Ruffin & Jarrett Funeral Home, 1200 Chester St., Little Rock (501) 372-1305. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to UALR Bowen School of Law and Big Brother/Big Sister of Pulaski County.
