Thomas Adams Thompson

Thomas Adams Thompson, Jr., age 82, of Benton, passed away on Saturday, October 2, 2010. He was born on December 22, 1927, in Wheeling, West Virginia, to the late Annabell Hill Thompson of Wheeling, West Virginia, and the late Thomas Adams Thompson of Brooklyn, New York. Tom's family immigrated to the United States from Bally Bay County Monaghan when the potato famine hit Ireland. He was the second generation to be born in the United States. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Thomas Adams Thompson III. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, JoAnn Newcomb Thompson, daughters, Susan Eoff and husband Buddy of Benton, Sara Ruple and husband Gregg of Ft. Smith and four grandchildren; Adam and Austin Eoff and Zachary and Mary Ruple. Tom was in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952 during the Korean Conflict. His professional work included West Virginia Road Commission (road and bridge work); Chemical Construction Corp. of New York, NY (chemical and petro chemical plants in USA, Europe and Africa); and Pickens-Bond Construction Company of Little Rock. Tom retired from Pickens-Bond in December of 1989. A celebration of Tom's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at the First Baptist Church of Benton, 211 South Market St., Benton, Arkansas, with a private burial held later. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday evening at Dial and Dudley Funeral Home in Bryant, 501-847-9099.
