Born in Little Rock, Arkansas on April 14, 1935, Louise Stewart Shields, of North Little Rock, Ark., left her earthly home on October 4, 2010. Her parents educated her in Little Rock Public Schools. She attended Capital Hill Elementary and Dunbar High School. She follows her parents, Willie and Lillie Stewart Toombs into a new life. Her husband, Edward Shields, greets her. Siblings awaiting her arrival are Ruth Juanita Stewart, Queen Esther Toombs, Velma Toombs Hilliard, Elizabeth Toombs Hubbard, Frances Toombs Lognion, Catherine Toombs Patton, Turley Toombs, and Calvin Toombs. Children greeting her are her first born, Raymond Dwight Dean, and grandson Raymond Dwight Dean II. She is survived by siblings: Shirley Toombs Farmer (James), Betty Jean Toombs Taylor, Remous Toombs, Willie Lee Toombs (Mary) and Charles Toombs. Surviving children are Wayde Earl Stewart, Mahlon Barry Stewart (Dallas, TX), Rhonda Carol Stewart, Millicent (Milly) Stewart and Rosalyn Anita Miller (daughter/niece). Surviving grandchildren are Adrian D. Tucker Sr., Reginald D. Dean (Virginia City, VA), Renay D. Dean (Atlanta, GA), Shannan M. Stewart (NLR), Jeremiah I. Stewart, (OK) and Wayland Hampton, (NLR). Surviving great-grandchildren are Adrian D. Tucker II, Denaisha O. Tucker, Lonnie D. Tucker, Brian Tucker, Briana Tucker, Rhondarius Bradley, Donovan Tucker and Denaiya Tucker. Hundreds of nieces, nephews and extended family will feel her absence. Louise worked at all three Veterans Memorial Hospital sites in the LR/NLR area. Her bartending skills kept her employed at Little Rock clubs including the Flamingo, Cavalier, Quarter Note, Tony's Dog House and Executive Inn. Lou was "Mother" to many young adults venturing into the nightclub scene in Little Rock. Small in stature, her presence was large throughout her community. The family sincerely appreciates the care provided by staff at Hospice Home Health, St. Vincent's Hospital and Baptist Hospital (Springhill Drive). A celebration of her life will be Saturday, October 9, 2010, 11 a.m., at Bullock Temple CME Church, 1513 South Park Street, Little Rock, Ark. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Family visitation will be Friday, October 8, 2010, 7:30-8:30 pm, at Ruffin & Jarrett Funeral Home, 1200 Chester St. LR (501) 372-1305.
