Marty Koschmann

Marty Koschmann of North Little Rock died September 10, 2010 in his home after a yearlong battle with cancer. Marty was born April 17, 1921 in Wausau, Wisconsin where he was raised in a traditional German Lutheran family where he spoke only German as a youngster. He attended the Concordia Seminary and Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and served in the US Navy during World War II. Although family tradition directed the first born son to the seminary, Marty chose to follow his father in a lifetime career in the retail industry, working for Macy's in Kansas City, Missouri and Dillard's Department Stores in Little Rock. Marty is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gloria, and his brothers, Don (Helen), Dennis (Julie) Smith and Ken (Mary) Smith. Marty and Gloria have four children, Tim (Barbara), Peter (Linda), Judy Haller (Randy) and Marty II (Brandi). He also has eight grandchildren, Nathaniel (Kelli), Carl (Elizabeth), Fred, Debbie and Elizabeth Haller, Taylor Sims, Tyler Sims and Marty III. Marty was specially blessed with three great-grandchildren, Max, Alden and Lucy. Marty was preceded by his father and mother, Hans and Ida Koschmann, sister, Myrtle and grandson Corwin Michael. Marty was a longstanding member of Park Hill Christian Church where he served as an Elder, choir member, and Chairperson of Evangelism. He was a passionate 30+ year member of the Diamond State Chorus, an organization that performs and promotes barbershop singing. Marty also belonged to the Grand Maumelle Yacht Club, where he competed in the Flying Scot racing class. Marty Koschmann will be remembered for his love and devotion to his family. Marty saw God in nature, he heard God in music. Marty's life will be celebrated in a memorial service at Park Hill Christian Church on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 11 a.m. Rev.
