Farris Harrison Sneed

FARRIS HARRISON SNEED, 91, of Maumelle, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 6, 2011. He was born on Feb. 9, 1920, in Fairbanks, Ark., a son of Richard Harrison and Clara Kennedy Sneed. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Winfred, Richard Leon, Herald A. and Odis D. Sneed. He was "Sneed" to many and especially to his wife of 63 years, Allene, who he always affectionately called his "Effie." He leaves behind his two girls, Debbie and Karen, and his son-in-law, Dale Smith. He served in CC camp at age 15-21, and then enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1941 and served a Tech. Sergeant in WWII, mostly in Hawaii. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Maumelle. He was a ‘gentleman,' always. He was a member of the Cadillac Crest Club and an award winning salesman, at Madison Cadillac in Little Rock and in Memphis, where he made many friends that became his extended family. He also enjoyed his work at Bud Davis Cadillac in his "semi-retirement" years. "Sneed" enjoyed fishing Greers Ferry Lake, quail hunting in the hills of Van Buren County, gardening and he had a meticulous approach to lawn care. He especially liked watching the golfers pass by on Maumelle Country Club Golf Course, the St. Louis Cardinals on television, and anything Razorbacks. His recall of statistics and sports records was phenomenal, often amazing those who visited him. He also loved his dogs and grand-dogs. The family would like to thank the extraordinary people who serve at the Veterans Administration hospitals in Little Rock and North Little Rock. Their compassionate approach to honoring all of the veterans entrusted to their care goes beyond professionalism. We especially appreciate Dr. Lehmberg and each and every member of the caring staff in the Palliative Care Unit. Graveside service will be held 11 a.m., Monday, May 9, 2011, at Riverwood Memorial Gardens, with Reverend Luke Conway and Reverend Wayne Jarvis officiating. Arrangements are with Roller-Chenal Funeral Home, (501)224-8300. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Maumelle, 1201 Edgewood Drive, Maumelle, Ark. 72113.
