Eugene Philip McGlauflin, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy (White) McGlauflin; daughter, Margaret M. Feurtado, M.D. and son-in-law, Earl Feurtado, M.D.; and daughter, Mary Cooper McGlauflin, all of Little Rock. He is also survived by his adored grandsons, Philip, Shelby, and Matthew Feurtado, also of Little Rock, and by many nieces and nephews who loved him. He was predeceased by his parents, George E. and Margaret (Flaherty) McGlauflin; his brothers Richard, Robert, Donald, and George; and his sisters, Dorothy Hinchliffe, Elizabeth, and Margaret. Gene was born in South Portland, Maine on July 15, 1922, and always deeply loved his home state, vacationing on its coast in the summers. He received his A.B. degree from Bowdoin College and his M.B.A. from the Columbia Graduate School of Business. Captain McGlauflin was a fighter pilot in Italy during WWII, flying P-51 Mustangs with the 308th Squadron, 31st Fighter Group, 15th Air Force. He ended his business career by retiring from Arkansas Power & Light, where for 26 years he had been Director of Corporate Services. He served as a board member of Southeast Mental Health; was active with the Rotary Club, the Chamber of Commerce, and the United Fund, and the Salvation Army; and for decades enjoyed the companionship of four different men's lunch and coffee groups. He was a man of quiet and deep faith, attended services every Sunday, and for many years taught Sunday School. He was dedicated to St. James United Methodist Church, which he attended since he and his family moved to Little Rock from Pine Bluff in 1977. Gene is remembered for his sweet smile, devotion to his family, and love of lifetime learning. He read constantly, especially enjoying science, literature, the economy, and politics. His family and friends enjoyed being with him because of his encyclopedic knowledge of the world, and his love of life and people (and all sports, especially snow-skiing and Razorback football). He had a special relationship with his three college-age grandsons, and attended their music and sports events. With Philip he talked enthusiastically about physics, poetry, and history; with Shelby he opened and managed a joint stock market account; and Matthew basked in his grandfather's full attention after his older brothers went off to college. Visitation will be at Ruebel Funeral Home, 6313 West Markham, Little Rock on Friday, October 28th from 5-7 p.m. The memorial service will be held at St. James United Methodist Church, 321 Pleasant Valley Drive, Little Rock, Saturday, October 29th at 10 a.m. Donations in his name to his church would be a meaningful tribute. Arrangements by Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com.
