Valdora Thompson Yancy, 84, of Little Rock went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, September 23, 2011. Born in Louisiana, she moved to Little Rock with her family at a young age. Upon graduating from Dunbar Junior High, she completed her undergraduate and graduate studies at AM&N College (now UAPB) and University of Arkansas, respectively and spent 39 years teaching in both the Pulaski County and Little Rock School Districts. In addition to a long term membership at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, her other affiliations included Arkansas Retired Teachers Association, Retired Educators of Little Rock and other public schools, UAPB/AM&N National Alumni Association, Inc., Traveling Friends and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Preceding her in death both parents Elijah and Curlie Jordan Thompson and brother, Joseph Thompson. She leaves to cherish her memories: daughter, Nina Yancy of Grand Prairie, Texas; sister, Ellora Conley of Luxora, Ark.; brother, Billye Thompson of Detroit, Mich.; former spouse, Eddie Yancy and a host of brother and sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, adopted sons and daughters, neighbors and friends. A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, October 1st, 11 am, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 908 Cross St. LR. Interment will follow at Haven of Rest Cemetery. Family hour will be Friday, September 30th, 6-7 p.m., at Ruffin & Jarrett Funeral Home, 1200 South Chester St., LR (501) 372-1305.
